Stiles calls on Ford and Carney to deliver guarantees for Ontario auto workers

QUEEN’S PARK — Official Opposition Leader Marit Stiles says that Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement on Canada’s auto sector had two notable absences; Premier Doug Ford and guarantees for Ontario’s auto workers:

“For the second time this year, Mark Carney made a critical announcement impacting Ontario’s auto sector, and Doug Ford was missing in action,” said Stiles. “Yet again, there’s no one to advocate for our province’s auto workers. Does he need a slice of pizza, or a cottage visit to show up for them?

“I heard a lot from the Prime Minister today, but not nearly enough about Ontario and its workers. What’s the plan to support the auto workers who have lost their jobs? Why is he about to cut an EI pilot program that these workers are depending on? The Prime Minister needs to answer to Ontario’s auto workers and their families.

“He's right – Canada is an auto nation, and Ontario’s auto workers are its lifeblood. Any auto strategy that doesn’t have strong guarantees for them is going in the wrong direction — the road to Canada becoming a global EV leader begins in Ontario.”
